Our first mini exhibition took place at Coffee Kitchen in Korea, April 2010. We exhibited A Journey: London and a new piece which is currently untitled.
The installation is made up of a collection of boxes from the mugs used in Coffee Kitchen. People can record short video clips of themselves which are then applied onto the surfaces of the mug boxes. The installation is controlled by a HTML5 web interface which the people can access using their own mobile phones.
We are curious how people can make their mark on the cafe by recording themselves and applying those recordings onto their surroundings. The original idea came from observing ʻPhoto Clubʼ culture, where girls will spend time in the cafe taking photographs of each other. We wondered how to adapt this activity in a playful and social way, where the output of the activity would be shared with others.
For this installation, we took inspiration from Ross Phillipsʼ Videogrid piece which discusses the ʻExquisite Corpseʼ game where people in turn draw sections of a body to make up one larger image. The technology for the video recording section of our project is based on his, whilst the user input and output mapping systems are different. The reasoning behind the two projects also differs.

아지트보다 더 아지트인 우리의 커피키친에서 지난 5월 작은 전시겸 파티를 개최했다.
A Journey : London을 전시했으며, 커피키친의 머그컵 상지를 이용하여 인터랙티브한 인스톨레이션도 설치하였다.
미디어 아트를 사랑하는 사람, 도무지 미디어아트가 뭔지 모르겠다는 사람, 커피가 그저 좋아서 온사람, 할일 없어서 온사람, 우리가 보고싶었다고 온사람들이 모여서 웃고 떠들며 즐겁게 시간을 보냈으니 첫번째 파티 치고는 성공적이라 우리는 생각한다.
아무렇게나 쌓아 올린 머그컵케이스 인스톨레이션은, 사람들의 각자의 핸드폰을 조작하여 비디오를 찍은 후, 상자를 선택하여 그곳에 바로 저장을 할 수 있도록 작동되었다.
친구의 비디오가 플레이되는 상자를 선택해서 나의 비디오로 대체할 수 도 있으며, 연인들은 두개의 상자안에 하나씩 서로 키스하는 모습을 넣는 등, 단순함 속에서 발견되는 다양한 놀이의 방법이 무척이나 재미있었다.
김치앤칩스는 오는 7월 다시 커피키친에서 전시겸 파티를 할 예정이다.
