A Journey: Seoul continues in the Journey series, looking into ways that people can build up their personal journey box using their own memories.
We are interested in ways that people can store their memories inside of a box, and how they animate and add details to those objects. We are non specific in our representation of scenes, so that the user has space to add their own imagination to the box. The user can build up a scene that represents their private journey by selecting and arranging slides in the box. Each slide has a unique identity that is communicated to the box by a set of teeth on the bottom of the slide. The box can then respond by painting light and animation onto the slides using a projector overhead.
The next stage in development is to enable people to draw their own slides. In this way, they can represent memories that are specific to themselves. They will also be able to add ambient sounds that they associate with that place.
We premiered A Journey: Seoul at Bains Numériques #5, which is an annual digital arts festival coordinated by the Centre des Arts dʼEnghien-les-Bains, 20 minutes north of Paris.
A Journey: Seoul employs our ND PolyFit projection mapping routine which will be available open source via this site and our blog when we have completed documentation and tying up a few bugs.
A Journey : Seoul은 런던에 이어 두번째로 만들어진 Journey 시리즈이다.
"여행-서울"은 사람들의 아련한 기억들을 재생하고 공유할 수 있도록 돕는 마법놀이상자의 컨셉을 가지고 있다.
무엇이 우리를 상자에 집착하게 했는지는 모르지만, 계획적이든 우연의 일치든 스케치의 끝자락에는 늘 상자가 덩그라니 그려져 있곤 한다.
시간 속 기억은 어떠한 속도로 지워지고 있을까? 잊혀진 기억의 재생은 새로운 기억의 시작이 되지 않을까? 나의 기억은 사실인가? 기억을 가지고 놀 수 있을까? 상자속 기억을 꺼내어 놀다가 다시 그속에 넣어 간직한다면?
A Journey : Seoul 은 기억의 상자이다. 각각의 투명 슬라이드는 상자속에서 마법과 같이 몽롱한 기억들을 그려내고 불러들인다. 비쥬얼 모티브는 지극히 개인적 취향이다. 자주가는 한강과 남산, 좋아하는 창문문살, 나의 현실 즐비한 아파트, 꺼지지않는 네온사인…
상자속에 슬라이드를 끼워 넣으면 상자는 기억을 그리기 시작한다. 슬라이드는 어느 레이어에든 끼워질 수 있다. 다른 슬라이드를 끼워가며, 서로가 이미 공유했을법한 또한 공유하고픈 이야기를 만들어 낼 수 있다.
다음 버전은 빈 슬라이드를 준비 한 후, 유저가 흰마커로 직접 슬라이드 위에 그림을 그려 새로운 이야기를 만들 수 있도록, 그리고 그 이야기에 다른 사람들이 다른 이야기를 붙일 수 있도록 하는 것이다.
