Kimchi and Chips developed a projection based installation to represent the differences between a HCCI engine, and existing petrol and diesel engines. The work was displayed at Michelinʼs Challenge Bibendum event in Rio de Janeiro in May 2010.
Our client, Oxy-Gen Combustion has novel technology which sizeably reduces the emission levels of an internal combustion engine. This is possible by enabling a technique called HCCI. Our client decided not to display a physical model of their technology as is standard for these exhibitions, and instead asked us to explore how to communicate his technology in an explanatory and attractive way. We believed that it was important to display something ʻbeyond the screenʼ, something physical, provoke discussion and to amaze.
Oxy-Gen Combustion Exploded View employs MapTools, our in house projection mapping tools which we are currently developing for public release.
김치앤칩스에서 또 하나의 프로젝션 기반의 인스톨레이션을 제작했다. 이는 신개념의 HCCI 엔진이 기존의 페트롤과 디젤과 어떻게 차별화가 되는가를 보여주기 위해 제작되었으며, 지난 5월 리오데자네이로에서 개최된 미쉘린 컨퍼런스에 설치되어 많은 호응을 받았다.
배기가스를 줄일 수 있는 엔진을 개발중인 Oxy-gen Combustion 은 새로운 개념의 HCCI 엔진 테크놀러지로 많은 관심을 받고 있는 기업이다. 본 컨퍼런스를 준비하면서, 클라이언트 Oxy-gen Combustion은 실제 엔진을 가지고 나가기 보다는, 보다 매력적인 방법으로 그들의 기술을 어필하고 소통할 수 있는 방법을 모색하고자 했다.
김치앤칩스는 엔진의 슬라이스한 조각들을 만들었고, 그 안에 프로젝션 맵핑을 이용하여, 감성적이면서도 디테일한 엔진 모션그래픽을 삽입하여 보다 미래적이고 비쥬얼적인 인스톨레이션으로 많은 시선을 사로 잡았다.
